MAINTENANCE AND OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE HELIOTEKINC.COMŽ Model HTE-1 ELECTRONIC FLASHLIGHT WARNING! THE MAIN BEAM OF THIS LIGHT IS EXTREMELY BRIGHT. DO NOT STARE INTO THIS LIGHT. DO NOT ALLOW SMALL CHILDREN TO PLAY WITH THIS LIGHT. Battery Installation: WARNING! Never install mixed new and used batteries or mix another brand or type of battery with the EnergizerŽ L91 batteries. Never install damaged batteries. Use only new undamaged and undischarged EnergizerŽ L91 AA Lithium batteries in this flashlight. The use of other types voids the warranty and may be dangerous to the user for the following reasons. 1) Under normal operation the EnergizerŽ L91 does not emit gas or corrosive liquid. 2) The EnergizerŽ L91 has two internal safety devices which are progressive as temperature increases: a thermal switch which limits the current and a pressure relief vent. The operating temperature of the pressure relief vent of the EnergizerŽ L91 is greater than that of the emergency vent on the flashlight, so that should the flashlight be exposed to temperatures greater than 100°C (212°F) pressure build-up is safely released. 3) The EnergizerŽ L91’s are the only power source on which the flashlight will run at 95% of full brightness for 6 to 8 hours. 4) The light weight EnergizerŽ L91 lithium batteries are necessary for the flashlight to float. 5) The flashlight can safely operate from -40°C to +46°C (-40°F to +115°F), only on EnergizerŽ L91 lithium batteries. First insure the flashlight is off. This prevents an arc or spark that could ignite flammable gas formed from a damaged battery. Firmly squeezing the soft SantopreneŽ battery case cover with one hand and the flashlight head with the other, unscrew the battery case from the flashlight head with a counter clockwise twist slowly so that any pressure buildup is released safely. Insert two (2) new EnergizerŽ L91 AA lithium batteries with the positive tips towards the flashlight head opening on the battery case. Carefully screw the battery case with the batteries back into the head until the SantopreneŽ cover is very tight or starts to slip. The batteries are now installed. Batteries should be replaced as soon as the flashlight dims noticeably. Exterior Maintenance: Keep the flashlight reasonably clean by wiping with a damp soft cloth and avoid all contact with the lens.
Lens: The lens is molded of LexanŽ and coated with silicone scratch resistant coating, however, it can be scratched. Clean only with a lens cleaning cloth and avoid any other contact. External lens scratches are not covered by the warranty.
O-Ring: As long as the O-ring is on the battery case while it is screwed into the flashlight head it should stay clean and not need attention. To insure the O-ring does not collect dirt never leave the battery case unattached to the flashlight head except for the installation of batteries, or pocket clip removal/reversal. The Buna N O-ring should only be coated with silicone grease; as other greases may destroy the O-ring. A spare O-ring coated with silicone grease along with a spare stainless steel roll pin for lanyard attachment is located in the holster in a plastic bag at the bottom of the battery pouch. To remove the O-ring from the battery case insert 4 round toothpicks spaced equally apart under the O-ring and slide it off over the threaded end of the battery case. Reverse this procedure to install a new O-ring. WARNING! The flashlight head, lens and tail cap are molded of LexanŽ polycarbonate, an extremely impact resistant thermoplastic, but can be damaged by certain deleterious aerosol sprays and solvents. Such damage is not covered by the warranty. ACCESSORIES Holster: Holster with spare battery pouch will mount on most belts and is also a good case in which to store the flashlight on a shelf, in a glove compartment, or purse to help prevent accidental damage to the lens. Spare batteries should be kept in a cool dry place. Two small zip-press water resistant bags are provided in the spare battery pouch to help keep spare batteries dry. Lanyard: WARNING! This flashlight is supplied with a breakaway lanyard. Should you replace it with a non-breakaway lanyard for attaching the flashlight to a fixed attachment point, the lanyard should never be used around the neck or other body part or attached to clothing. Such use could result in serious injury or death. The nylon breakaway lanyard is attached to the tail cap in such a way that the flashlight will stand on the tail cap to reflect off a ceiling in an emergency. An adjustable removable cord lock is installed on the lanyard. By squeezing the small ends of the cord lock, it may be moved to any desired location on the lanyard. It can be removed by squeezing the small ends until a click is heard and then sliding it off. To reinstall, slide it to the desired location and squeeze the two ears by the non-moving small end. It will snap into operation. To remove the lanyard from the flashlight use a toothpick or bent paperclip to fish the stainless steel roll pin out of its tail cap compartment and remove it from the lanyard loop. Then pull the lanyard from the flashlight. Be sure to save the stainless steel roll pin in a safe place for reuse. When re-installing the lanyard, always be sure that the end of the lanyard with a short six (6) inch piece between breakaway points is placed in the lanyard attachment point with the roll pin so that the breakaway function can work. Lens Cover Diffuser: It is operated by firmly squeezing the raised ridged sections which are 90° opposed to the spring hinge and latch, between the thumb and the forefinger, causing it to “pop” open. Push it back firmly to re-latch it. It may be removed by first opening it and then, keeping the ridge sections squeezed, firmly pull it away from the flashlight. To replace it; line up the tab under the spring with the slot on the lens bezel that is in line with the switch, and push it firmly onto the light until it is fully seated with the tab, that is under the spring, flush with the bezel. The three other tabs sit on the bezel. Pocket Clip: The pocket clip can be removed or reversed by unscrewing the battery case (slowly to release any pressure difference) and then sliding it off. It may then be reversed if desired. It can be adjusted by sliding it to the desired location. WARNING! If the clip holds the light on the outside of a pocket, be careful that light does not snag and bend the clip, permanently damaging the clip. Switch: The “external switch” is simply a mechanical arrangement for holding a magnet whose magnetic field operates the actual sealed switch inside the flashlight head. There are four possible switch positions: 1) right forward – constant on; 2) right rearward – constant off; 3) left rearward – off (ready for momentary on); 4) left forward – momentary on. WARNING: The light is not designed nor intended to operate near high magnetic fields. These fields will turn the light on for as long as the flashlight is in the field and may damage the magnet or the magnetic switch. Switch Cleaning: DO NOT USE ANY LUBRICANTS ON THE SWITCH. 1) Submerge flashlight in warm soapy water (use household dish detergent); 2) work switch back and forth and side to side; 3) rinse with clean water; 4) repeat procedure until all debris has been removed from switch and the switch works freely. 10 Year Limited Warranty Heliotek Inc. warrants this product to be free from defects in workmanship and materials for 10 years from the date of shipment.
